All I can say is that I am so glad for the money I spent on postcards a little while ago or there would be no mail! I have started a new job, in the training anyway, with Kwantlen Polytechnic University and there has been very little time to be creative. So thank goodness for postcards.
On Tuesday, I mailed Aylah a postcard. To see if we can make a plan for her lunches so I don’t feel like she is going to school with nothing but pickles packed for lunch.
On Wednesday, I mailed a postcard to our friends Nick and Sylvia who have been in Costa Rica for the last 6 months and will be heading home shortly. In fact, they will be swinging by here on January 30th to pick up their half share of Three Feet Below goods. We are so excited to see them, hear about their adventures and plan some more trips to see them in their lovely little pocket of paradise (they live in Gibsons). Nick’s blog has been an incredible joy to read while they have been away.
On Thursday, I mailed a postcard to our friends Natalie and Warren, in Squamish, to ask if they would be open to hosting the Farm School cohort on a field trip some time this year. They live and work on a beautiful 10 acres of paradise, keep chickens and grow a lot of food. We all went to Farm School together and I think it would be very inspiring for this year’s students to hear from a past student what they learned and how they have applied it. Fingers crossed, I will be driving out there with the crew later this year.
On Friday, I mailed a cheque to the Steveston Farmers market for Three Feet Below’s upcoming market date in March. In case you notice the dates don’t match up, don’t worry. I really didn’t mail it until Friday. I actually forgot about it after I wrote the cheque and was glad I found it on Friday!
On Saturday, it was Stefano’s youngest son’s birthday so I mailed him a postcard wishing him a great day and telling him we are all looking forward to his visit in the spring.
On Sunday, I mailed a thank you to Chris Bodnar, our business planning teacher from Farm School. He met with Three Feet Below for the afternoon on Saturday and helped us revise our goals, business plan and refocus our efforts. He also signed up for a full CSA share. Chris and his wife Paige run Glen Valley Farm and Close to Home Organics. They are amazing farmers and people and we are so glad to know them.
And today I wrote to Patrick, at Harkness and Company. I went to buy sausages for dinner from him and we had a brief chat about how he had just been talking about me to someone who was amazed they had received a hand written letter in the mail. He had said to them “I know just who you should talk to”, referring to me. I have to say, Patrick makes the best sausages I have ever had. Tonight’s selection had bacon and caramelized onion in it and Stefano likened them to crack (not speaking from experience of course).
Another week gone and the countdown to the end is well and truly on. I have to say, I still love mail.
