postcards are my friends

IMG_2216All I can say is that I am so glad for the money I spent on postcards a little while ago or there would be no mail!  I have started a new job, in the training anyway, with Kwantlen Polytechnic University and there has been very little time to be creative.  So thank goodness for postcards.

On Tuesday, I mailed Aylah a postcard.  To see if we can make a plan for her lunches so I don’t feel like she is going to school with nothing but pickles packed for lunch.

IMG_2214On Wednesday, I mailed a postcard to our friends Nick and Sylvia who have been in Costa Rica for the last 6 months and will be heading home shortly. In fact, they will be swinging by here on January 30th to pick up their half share of Three Feet Below goods.  We are so excited to see them, hear about their adventures and plan some more trips to see them in their lovely little pocket of paradise (they live in Gibsons). Nick’s blog has been an incredible joy to read while they have been away.

On Thursday, I mailed a postcard to our friends Natalie and Warren, in Squamish, to ask if they would be open to hosting the Farm School cohort on a field trip some time this year.  They live and work on a beautiful 10 acres of paradise, keep chickens and grow a lot of food.  We all went to Farm School together and I think it would be very inspiring for this year’s students to hear from a past student what they learned and how they have applied it.  Fingers crossed, I will be driving out there with the crew later this year.

IMG_2211On Friday, I mailed a cheque to the Steveston Farmers market for Three Feet Below’s upcoming market date in March.  In case you notice the dates don’t match up, don’t worry. I really didn’t mail it until Friday.  I actually forgot about it after I wrote the cheque and was glad I found it on Friday!

IMG_2236On Saturday, it was Stefano’s youngest son’s birthday so I mailed him a postcard wishing him a great day and telling him we are all looking forward to his visit in the spring.

IMG_2238On Sunday, I mailed a thank you to Chris Bodnar, our business planning teacher from Farm School.  He met with Three Feet Below for the afternoon on Saturday and helped us revise our goals, business plan and refocus our efforts.  He also signed up for a full CSA share.  Chris and his wife Paige run Glen Valley Farm and Close to Home Organics.  They are amazing farmers and people and we are so glad to know them.

And today I wrote to Patrick, at Harkness and Company.  I went to buy sausages for dinner from him and we had a brief chat about how he had just been talking about me to someone who was amazed they had received a hand written letter in the mail.  He had said to them “I know just who you should talk to”, referring to me.  I have to say, Patrick makes the best sausages I have ever had.  Tonight’s selection had bacon and caramelized onion in it and Stefano likened them to crack (not speaking from experience of course).

IMG_2240Another week gone and the countdown to the end is well and truly on.  I have to say, I still love mail.

a week of mostly postscards

This week there was a flurry of postcards.  On Tuesday,

IMG_2185

a postcard to Stefano to tell him how excited I am about our upcoming trip the the UK.

On Wednesday, IMG_2192

a postcard to my friend Shelley, to tell her I think she is great and important to me.

On Thursday, IMG_2190

a postcard to my brother Simon, to tell him how excited I am to finally meet him on our upcoming trip to the UK!

On Friday,

IMG_2188

a postcard to my mom, just to touch base.  It reminds me of a Christmas card that my parents made when I was a baby that had me sitting at the bottom of a ladder and the rungs of the ladder covered in naked dolls they had found in their house in Toronto.  Weird but cool.  I just searched my house for the card, but can’t find it so you will just have to imagine how cool it was.

On Saturday,IMG_2186

another postcard to Stefano, this one actually mailed on his birthday (even though I gave him a card on his birthday too).  We had such a good weekend together and I wanted to record it in as many ways as I could.

On Sunday, IMG_2203IMG_2204a note to the Thai restaurant Stefano and I ate at on Saturday.  Have you been to Bob Likes Thai Food?  There are a lot of sub-par restaurants in this city.  I didn’t know that until I ate at Bob Likes Thai Food.  Their food is clean and delicious and the service is great.

And today,

IMG_2205A birthday card for my mama.  Her birthday is this Sunday (the 19th) so I hope the card gets there in time!

I realized today that I have a month left of this challenge.  A month!  I also realized that I will be in the UK for the last 2 weeks of this challenge.  Which won’t make it hard to send mail, but may make it difficult to blog.  So I might not.  And you will hear about the last 2 weeks sometime after I get back.  Just giving you a heads up.

2014 and the countdown to the end is on!

This week marked the beginning of 2014 and I realized that I am just over a month away from completing my 365 day project!

On Monday and Tuesday, I mailed a postcard to each of my business partners, telling them how excited I am for another great year working and farming with them and furthering the Three Feet Below cause.

IMG_2132

IMG_2136Then I mailed a little card (when I say little, I mean LITTLE, the card was about the size of a matchbox-have fun with that Canada Post!) to my dear friend Shelley, just to tell her I like her.

IMG_2134And a card to two friends who we saw on New Year’s day and would really like to see more!

IMG_2138On Friday, I mailed a card to my in-laws.  Just to say thanks for all their hospitality over the holidays and for being nice to me.

IMG_2174On Saturday, I mailed another miniature card, this one to a couple who we failed miserably at connecting with in December.  Hopefully they will accept my invitation to try again in January!

IMG_2175Sunday saw a card made for my boss/friend to thank her for being so lovely to work for.  Today was my last day at the Posh Pantry and I will really miss working with Angie.

IMG_2177And today, I wrote and mailed a letter to Laura, in Victoria on some fancy letterhead that my aunt Heather had sent me at Christmas.

IMG_2180And speaking of Heather, I got the best letter from her when I got home from work today!  She complimented me on my blog and thought it would be pretty awesome to look back at the year once it is all done.  She also shared a few excerpts from her list of 365 things she is getting rid of over the course of a year  (like tops that never looked good on her).  Her project started right around the same time as mine-coincidence or genius minds working alike?  I loved reading her beautiful handwriting and the list cracked me up.  Thanks Heather!
